Teaching and Learning
There
is no doubt that information technologies provide new opportunities
to transform the way that teachers teach and students
learn. It is the goal
of Radnor Township School District to include technology as an
integral component of instruction, seamlessly and effectively.
Research
has demonstrated that students learn best when they actively
construct their knowledge. Students
learn by doing as they go online to use the unlimited resources of
the Internet, and design electronic presentations to demonstrate
their understanding of curricular topics and the development of new
ideas. By using the
web to gather, evaluate and analyze information, our students are
exposed to high standards of visual communication that reflect
different perspectives on a particular subject or essential
question.
As
we focus on a continuum of technology proficiency skills for our
students beginning in Kindergarten and continuing through high
school, we believe strongly that these skills need to be practiced
and applied in the content areas to support academic standards,
benchmarks
and objectives. This use of technology makes it possible for our
students to engage in learning practices that lead to new ways of
thinking, understanding, constructing knowledge and communicating
results.
Professional
Development
In
order to effectively include technology in the planning and delivery
of quality teaching and learning, our teachers require focused and
sustained professional development. By focusing on both teacher proficiency skills and content
area connections, we are able to offer differentiated professional
development based on district and individual needs and goals.
