HIPAA Information

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 established rights and protections for health care consumers and created responsbilities for Health Plan Sponsors.

Title 1 of HIPAA protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families when they change or lose their jobs.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule went into effect on April 14, 2003. The Privacy Rule governs the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information.("PHI") The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights enforces this rule.
