From the Nurses: Allergy season is here! If you child is affected by seasonal allergies and takes medication, please make sure they take it every day as directed by your physician. Some other tips: Dry, breezy, sunny days are the worst.  Limit time outdoors. Keep house and car windows closed if possible. Pollen collects on all surfaces including the body and hair and clothes. Change clothes when coming inside, shower daily including washing hair. Wash pillow cases frequently. Wash hands frequently to avoid transferring pollen to face and eyes. A cold wet compress (folded paper towel) can help relieve itchy eyes temporarily. Keep some ready in the refrigerator. Consult your doctor if symptoms persist rather than self medicating. Happy Spring!

Update on Math Placement for Next Year’s 6th Graders - Radnor Township School District is continuing to refine the placement processes used to match students’ demonstrated readiness levels with the difficulty of math courses. All 5th grade students recently took the ERB Quantitative Reasoning and ERB Math Achievement tests. According to the April 19 eMinder, the original district plan was to only administer the IOWA Algebra Aptitude Test to students who scored sufficiently high on the ERB tests (in the 8th and 9th stanines). In order to make sure that all students have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and that the district has a complete set of data from which to make decisions, we have decided to administer the IOWA test to all fifth grade students. Please note that this does not alter the criteria for placement in 6th grade math next year at RMS. The IOWA test consists of four segments, each consisting of 15 questions and each lasting 10 minutes. It is expected that no more than a a single class period would be devoted to this effort. Specific dates for the administration of the test will come from your child’s teacher and/or building principal.

Attention parents/guardians of students without updated immunizationsChildren who do not have their vaccines may be excluded from school if they do not have the required immunizations. The deadline to provide this proof has been extended to May 22, 2012. More information here.
