Wayne Elementary School is a designated Title I school. This federally funded program provides financial assistance to schools with high numbers or high percentages of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are allocated based primarily on census poverty estimates. Although school-based funding is based on financial need, the focus of the Title I services is on students with academic needs in math or literacy. Title I schools must focus Title I services on children who are failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet state academic standards.
