Welcome to room 45! I have been teaching at WES for 11 years and before that, I taught in Philadelphia for 5 years. I have two daughters named Caylie and Emmie. I can’t wait to tell you all about them this year! In addition, I enjoy playing with my nephews, running outside, and reading new books. I also love to teach, of course. I can’t wait to learn all about you and your interests.

What's Happening in Fourth Grade?

  • Social Studies- Students will learn about our state of Pennsylvania. We will explore the geographical features that make Pennsylvania unique and discover some important landmarks of Pennsylvania. Students will then research a landmark of their choosing and present what they learned to the class.

    Reading- The goal of Unit 4 is to enable students to determine importance and synthesize information to engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions on grade level topics and texts, building on other peoples’ ideas and expressing their own ideas clearly while working with Expository Nonfiction texts. 

    Students will also participate in book clubs. They will choose a book out of 5 choices and read and discuss that book with their peers. During this time, they may or may not be instructed by their homeroom teacher depending on which book they choose.



    Writing- Students will read and listen to poems. They will learn all about the features of poems that make them special. Students will then practice writing their own poems while incorporating the elements of poetry that they studied.





    Chapter 13

    • Students find the area of a rectangle using the formula A=length x width
    • Students apply what they learned earlier in the year to decompose figures into squares and/or rectangles, and to find unknown side lenghts in figures.
    • Students solve real-world problems involving area and perimeter of figures.

    Chapter 14

    • Students identify lines of symmetry in figures and identify figures with rotational symmetry.
    • They engage in hands-on activities that involve folding and cutting patterns to understand line symmetry and rotational symmetry.
    • Students complete and create symmetric patterns on grid paper.

    Chapter 15

    • Students identify tessellations, which are patterns formed by repeated shapes, to cover a surface without gaps or overlaps.
    • Students identify the repeated shape used in a tessellation.
    • Students tessellate shapes in different ways to form patterns.
