Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Radnor Township School District students, parents and staff members are invited to join the five Radnor Township School District parent-teacher organizations for the third annual district-wide Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 21. 

The event will feature hands-on service projects, donation collections, baked goods, 50/50 raffle, Hoops for Helping, mindfulness sessions and more. All proceeds will be donated.

Please note: The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is open to RTSD students, parents/guardians & staff ONLY. Children in grades K-8 must be accompanied by a parent.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Volunteers are needed to help make the annual RTSD Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service a success! Opportunities include setting up, running the registration table, escorting visitors, collecting donations, leading a service project, cleaning up, delivering donation items & more.

Hands-On Service Projects

  • Food Pantry at Wayne Church

    Create Blizzard Bags filled with non-perishable food

    AniMeals at Bryn Mawr Eldernet (NEW!)

    Package food for support animals for homebound & food insecure pet owners

    Bryn Mawr Hospital Pediatric Unit

    Assemble activity kits for children in the hospital & create care kits for hospitalized infants

    Rosemont Golden Living & Wayne Senior Center (NEW!)

    Make doves (the ultimate symbol of peace) as door hangers for the elderly

    Keystone Soldiers (NEW!)

    Make Valentine’s crafts with cards for deployed service personnel from Pennsylvania

    Life Center of Eastern Delaware County

    Decorate lunch bags and assemble lunches for the hungry in our community & make bookmarks with inspirational messages to accompany book donations

    Cradles to Crayons

    Decorate kid pack bags (for families to help celebrate the birthdays of children in need)

    Valley Youth House (NEW!)

    Create support kits for homeless and runaway youth, age 21 and under. Pack donated essential items into reusable tote bags.

    Items needed: Gift Cards (Family Dollar, Wawa, Giant, Acme, Target, Walmart, etc); socks, gloves, hand warmers; granola bars, snack crackers, pop tarts; single serve bags of chips, cookies, beef jerky, etc.; tea bags, instant single serve coffee packets; bug spray; batteries; wash cloths (new); travel size toiletries (body wash, shampoo, sunscreen, deodorant, lotion, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream)

Mindfulness Sessions

  • Led by Stacey Mandel, Founder & Facilitator, Bubbles & Flashlights - Mindfulness for Youth

    10:30-11 a.m.

    Practicing Peace: An introductory mindfulness session open to children ages 7-11 and their parents together to explore how “paying attention to the here and now with kindness and curiosity” can empower us to respond rather than react to life.
