Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project (PAWLP)
Radnor Township School District decided to partner with Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project (PAWLP) after meeting with representatives of several organizations and evaluating their approach to supporting teachers. PAWLP demonstrated that their organization’s principles aligned with ours, their instructors are knowledgeable about current research on writing instruction, and they will collaborate with us to develop training sessions based on our needs. Furthermore, RTSD teachers and administrators have had positive experience with PAWLP in the past. Some or our teachers are PAWLP fellows and others are familiar with PAWLP instructors.
PAWLP is housed at West Chester University and is one of the oldest sites of the National Writing Project. According to their website, PAWLP provides professional development, develops resources, generates research, and acts on knowledge to improve the teaching of writing and learning in schools and communities. PAWLP believes that access to high-quality educational experiences is a basic right of all learners and a cornerstone of equity. They work in partnership with institutions, organizations, and communities to develop and support leadership for educational improvement. PAWLP also offers courses and workshops in teaching writing, teaching literature, and writing-reading connections.
