Below is a brief description of PTO events, programs, and committees that would not be possible without our dedicated parent volunteers.
Appropriations - Through the appropriation of special funds, the PTO gives back to WES above and beyond our annual budget. This committee researches ideas for use of PTO funds based on school needs and staff wishes. The committee is comprised of VP Administration (Chair), Assistant Treasurer and past President.
Celebrate the Arts Night - Our Annual Arts Night each April is a celebration of our students’ masterpieces in Art Class from the year. Parents can support this evening through the purchase of a reproduction of their child’s art piece through Original Works. The committee supports our Art teacher with planning and preparation, hands-on support during Arts Night, and facilitating Original Works orders and fulfillment.
Bingo Night - One of our most popular nights with an annual sell-out crowd! This event is held on Friday evening in January and volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of the event – organization, selling cards & food, checking BINGO winners, and even MC-ing the night. A great evening event to give back while the kids are focused on their own fun.
Book Fair - For one week every October the Little Theater is transformed into one of our most popular fundraisers – the Book Fair. Volunteers help set-up and breakdown the Book Fair or dedicate a bit of time during classroom visits to assist children find the just right books for themselves or family.
Cash Back for WES - Our simple Cash Back Programs from Box Tops for Education, Shoparoo, and Amazon Smile raise thousands of dollars for Wayne Elementary School. Use one or all approaches for Cash Back for WES!
Community Outreach - Parent volunteers provide opportunities for service projects in which WES students participate. The committee works with school guidance counselors to identify and coordinate projects appropriate for all students. RTSD and our district wide PTOs join together for an awesome Radnor-wide MLK Day of Service as a single day to also give back to our local community through a variety of WES and other RTSD school led projects.
Craft Night - A creative evening in December where children make several craft projects perfect for holiday gifts, or for keeping themselves. Volunteers help plan the evening and projects, and prepare or supervise an individual craft table. You don't have to be Martha Stewart to enjoy this night!
Cultural Arts - WES PTO supports enhancing our student’s cultural experiences and awareness with a robust Cultural Arts program. Our Cultural Arts Committee coordinates and sponsors monthly school assemblies and activities in areas of dance, drama, art, literature and much more. PTO volunteers research and select future assembly programs and coordinate the visit of the programs or individuals.
Directory - Our school-wide directory has all the information you'll ever need: names, addresses, phone numbers, school calendar, class lists and more – all online! Coordinators liaison with our district-wide Directory Chairs, update and authorize family information, and promote the directory at WES events.
Family Picnic - This fun evening in September brings WES families and faculty together to welcome in the new school year. Bring a casual dinner or buy pizza and beverages on site. The PTO coordinates the logistics and provides water ice and soft pretzels and beverages – you bring the fun and comradery.
Fifth Grade Committee - Our 5th grade parents come together to help create lasting memories for our 5th graders' last year, assist the 5th grade teachers with special projects and events during the year, create a yearbook for each student, and plan a year-end 5th grade celebration.
Parent Socials - The Grade Level Socials are a great way to get to know fellow parents whose children are in the same class and grade at WES. The setting is informal at a fellow parent’s home and guests are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert and their favorite drink! Volunteer to help find new hosts – or sign up to host your child’s grade level parents next year!
Green Committee - The Green Committee is a school-wide effort to educate and inform on green issues and integrate green principles into school-sponsored events and classroom curriculum. The committee supports the WES Trail and outdoor classroom programs throughout the school.
Trunk or Treat - A “costume” party for WES students and families “Trick or Treating” around the parking lot to decorated car trunks.. Help plan the evening or decorate your family vehicle for this “thrilling” Family fun night.
Health and Wellness - The Health and Wellness committee is interested in sharing fun and delicious healthy snack and meal ideas to the children and parents of Wayne Elementary with regular cafeteria tastings and other innovative ideas throughout the year.
Homeroom Parents - A great way to get involved in your child’s classroom is to volunteer to be a Homeroom Parent! Responsibilities include: helping the teacher organize class parties and events, assisting the teacher in recruiting classroom volunteers if needed, creating class email lists for easy communication, sending emails or make phone calls at the request of the teacher or PTO President/VP Communications concerning school or PTO business.
Kidsprint Publishing - Help our budding authors type and bind their stories into beautiful books. You don’t have to be a master tailor to help with these simple sewing projects – are you crafty or love creating scrapbooks? This is the spot for you!
Library - The library is the very busy heart of the school at WES and we depend on library volunteers. Help shelve books or work on special projects throughout WES for one hour every or every-other week. Time well spend and well rewarded as the staff and students appreciate and come to recognize your regular contributions and presence.
Multicultural Committee - Volunteers increase awareness of the diverse heritage at WES through International Week every winter where WES is transformed into a new country and the community comes together at the end of the week for a Family Potluck dinner where attendees bring food from around the world.
Kindergarten and New Family Welcoming Committee - We welcome new WES families throughout the year – not only every September. Volunteers welcome these families at regular events and with information special to WES. Or, become a Buddy Family by introducing yourself and helping new families assimilate to our school, neighborhood and community. We provide each new family with a packet of helpful information about WES and Radnor Township and coordinate orientation events to familiarize new families with WES. If you like meeting new people or bragging about Radnor and all our community has to offer, this is a great spot for you!
Nominating - Recruits volunteers and Committee Chairs through identifying PTO needs and matching interested and involved parent volunteers with opportunities. In addition to supporting Committees by matching volunteers with their needs, the Nominating Committee annually presents a slate of PTO officers and parents interested in serving on the Board of Directors for the upcoming school year.
Plant Sale - Brighten your spring and help support WES at our annual flower/plant sale. Volunteers organize orders and distribute plants outside on delivery day. Love to work outside but don’t necessarily have a green thumb? No worries, we know the plants; we just love more hands helping play in the dirt!
Pretzel Fridays - Pretzel Fridays is a WES PTO fundraiser that delivers a fun Friday snack! Volunteers help sort and distribute soft pretzels and waters weekly throughout the school year. Fun Friday mornings but not huge time commitment every week!
Science Assemblies - In cooperation with WES teachers and staff, the PTO schedules and coordinates grade-level science assemblies to enhance the science and STEM experiences of our students – extra fun, interactive educational STEM programs for every grade at WES.
Science Fair - Support our WES “mad scientists” and their science projects by volunteering to help coordinate the registration, set up the projects before the Science Fair begins, and finding special STEM demonstrations to enhance the evening family Science Fair Night at WES.
Spring Fair - Always a favorite day – our unique WES "End of Year" celebration! Help with games, face painting, crafts raffles, food and much more the day of the Fair! Or, give a little more time and lead a portion of the Fair as part of the Coordinating Committee. All WES parents are encouraged to take a shift to help make this day a success.
Staff Appreciation - A "thank you" to all our incredible WES staff for their tireless efforts all year. Contribute ideas and support the event with time, donations, or decorations as part of the Committee or individual sign up.
Talent Show - An entertaining evening indeed! Help our children be "stars" for a night by supporting the registration and run through practices or as part of the behind-the-scenes support either night of the Show.
Radnor Spirit Gear - The PTO offers our very own logo clothing - sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts and more. Committee coordinates orders and distributes clothing upon arrival at WES.
WES Parent Spring Social (TBD) - The WES Parent Spring Social is a fun night out for parents and a fundraiser for WES. We are looking for new, innovative ideas and coordination of this important fundraiser for WES PTO. Like the throw a party? Put those skills to use on this fun event for WES parents.
