RTSD Elementary Online Learning Guidelines

  • The Elementary Online Learning Guidelines include daily, weekly, and overall expectations for remote learning lessons and student expectations.

The Schoology Learning Management System is the primary vehicle for delivering instruction and Big Blue Button (Schoology Conferences) is the main method for facilitating live sessions between teachers and students.

Parents – Please understand that the change to remote learning has been a dynamic process and we are learning and growing. Lessons and live instruction may look significantly different by grade level and subject area. Please be patient as we develop skills and processes to best meet the needs of our students. Please contact your child’s teacher or principal with any feedback.

    Daily Schedule

All new instruction and related activities will be housed in Schoology and posted daily by 9:00 a.m. by your child’s teacher.

    Morning Message

Students will receive a morning message each day. Teachers will utilize recorded video, written message, and/or live platform to facilitate a morning message. The morning message may be the synchronous session for the day.

    Lessons

Students will receive daily instruction in math, reading, writing, and a special area. A minimum of one day per week, students will also receive instruction and complete assignments in word study and science or social studies. Although Schoology will be used to provide activities and collect assignments, learning activities may not require direct screen time.

    Wednesday Collaboration & Catch-Up

Wednesdays are meant for students to catch up on assignments and balance their work with rest and personal wellness. Teachers will have “office hours” twice a day on Wednesdays to check in with students and provide feedback. Wednesdays are also a time for teachers to receive ongoing professional development and time for planning.

    Interaction

Teachers will be available to answer questions and provide feedback by email, Schoology discussion, and/or live through BBB conferences. By May 1, teachers will hold a daily synchronous session through BBB on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Special Services and Support

  • Special services such as, Special Education, Gifted Education, ELD Support, Title 1 Support, and Reading Support will receive instruction and guidance through case managers and instructional support personnel. Teachers will work in conjunction with the content education teachers to accommodate and/or modify content curriculum material and assignments as appropriate to students’ level. If your child receives one or more of these services, your case manager will communicate with you regarding daily/weekly instruction and support. If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
