When to Keep Your Child Home

  • FluThe nursing staff recommends that you keep your child home from school if he or she is exhibiting any of the following symptoms:

    • Fever of more than 100 degrees
    • Chills
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Abdominal pain
    • Rash
    • Itchy, red, watery eyes
    • Excessive coughing
    • Severe sore throat
    • Body aches
    • Enlarged glands
    • Excessive tiredness

A child should not return to school until he or she has been fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication. Vomiting and diarrhea should also have subsided for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
Sending your child to school before he or she is completely well places them at risk for contracting other illnesses and also promotes the spread of illness to classmates and staff members.
Please notify school by calling Safe Arrival if your child is going to be absent. Upon return to school, your child must bring the yellow absence card indicating the date and reason for absence. This excuse must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
A physicians note is required for an absence of three or more consecutive days.
Absenteeism is more fully explained under the Parent Resources tab on the district Web site.
