The Board has concluded its interviews with candidates for the position of superintendent, and has moved to the final phase of the search. The Board has undertaken an extensive interview process, which included three rounds of discussions, and the opportunity for involvement from other internal stakeholders during these final steps. The process consisted of a mix of interview questions that reflected many of the topics that emerged from the stakeholder comments earlier in the search, as well as leadership and management scenarios that tested their presentation skills and the logic/sequence they would employ in addressing specific management issues.
This has been a very time-intensive process for the Board, and one that all nine members continue to take very seriously. From the coordinating of Board member and candidate schedules, to the analysis of candidates and extensive Board discussions each step of the way, we made every attempt to conduct this process with dignity, respect and an eye toward the future of Radnor. In fact, we will continue to work on this project after the formal appointment of the next superintendent as we develop a superintendent evaluation process and clarify Board-superintendent roles, responsibilities and protocols. So there is still much work to be done.
We will be updating you again as more information emerges.

The search for the next superintendent of Radnor Township School District is officially underway. The School Board has had the opportunity to meet with our consultant to discuss various logistical and governance issues related to the search process, including the search timeline; the roles, responsibilities and dynamics of a high-impact governing team; and the leadership competencies that appeared in the initial job positing.
The position has been distributed statewide through websites, PENNLINK, and direct outreach efforts to school leaders throughout Pennsylvania. The opportunity is also being promoted nationally through one of the industry’s most prominent venues, EdWeek. A next phase of advertising and recruiting will be rolled out this week.
The Board would like to include the community in this process, and we have asked our consultant to develop focus group opportunities for the residents of the district. What will evolve from these discussions will be a deeper set of strategic competencies and leadership experiences needed for the next superintendent to successfully lead RTSD into the future. Through our consultant and internal staff, we are finalizing the dates, times and locations of those meetings – and expect to have that information distributed this week.

RTSD Superintendent Search Update
May 11, 2016
The search for the next superintendent of Radnor Township School District is well underway. As previously stated, the Board of School Directors is committed to conducting a comprehensive search for a superintendent to replace Dr. Kelly, who announced that he will be ending his services to the district effective August 25, 2016.
An essential component of identifying quality candidates for superintendent is in the selection of a search firm with a proven record of success. The board has considered a number of such firms and expects to make its final selection by the end of May. At that time, a detailed superintendent search timeline will be finalized and posted.
Superintendent searches can be very time consuming and require a great deal of preparation and consideration. To ensure the continuing oversight of district operations in the event the next superintendent is not able to immediately join the district upon Dr. Kelly’s departure, the board is concurrently searching for candidates capable and available to serve as interim superintendent in the event this service would be needed.
The board is appreciative of the community’s patience and understanding as we search for and select the district’s next superintendent.

Dr. Kelly Informs Board He Will Be Leaving RTSD in August 2016
February 26, 2016
The Radnor Township School District Board of Directors wishes to inform the community that Dr. Michael Kelly has advised us that he is no longer considering a renewal of his contract, and instead intends to conclude his service as Superintendent of Schools effective August 25, 2016.
The Board is very grateful to Dr. Kelly for his dedicated and diligent leadership of the District during a period of significant change and difficult challenges. While we were disappointed by his decision, we are pleased that Dr. Kelly is fully committed to leading the District through August and supporting a smooth leadership transition prior to departure. We wish him the very best, now and always.
Dr. Kelly states: "I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the Radnor school community, and I have benefited immensely by getting to know so many talented and dedicated colleagues. The countless students and staff accomplishments that occur every year in Radnor are amazing. Additionally, I believe the District is making great strides in building professional relationships with parent, community, and teacher organizations. I am confident that the systems approach to leading and managing the District put into place over the past couple of years has the District on a positive path moving forward."
The Board intends to undergo a comprehensive search for Dr. Kelly's permanent replacement. In the coming months, we will be updating the community as we develop a plan towards that end.
