STEAM in the Summer

STEAM in the Summer aims to spark young students' interest in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). Through hands-on experiences, students will explore the subjects of robotics, coding, computer science and programming, augmented and virtual reality, gamification and more.

Who: Open to all rising 3rd-8th grade students enrolled in Radnor Township School District schools.

When: July 8-11 and July 15-18; Morning (8:30-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon sessions (12:30-3:30 p.m.) are available.

Where: Radnor Middle School (150 Louella Ave., Wayne).

Registration: Online registration is required.

 Radnor High School Summer School

Radnor High School Summer School

The Radnor High School Summer School program provides students with the opportunity to enrich and accelerate their learning, as well as gives students a chance to recover credits in courses they failed during the regular school year. The summer courses offered in 2019 are Advanced Algebra I, Advanced Geometry and Honors Geometry.

Who: Open to rising 9th-12th grade students. Radnor residents who do not attend RTSD public schools must show proof of residency when registering.

When: June 19-Aug. 1; Monday-Friday; 7:45-11:45 a.m. Tutoring is available for 30 minutes immediately following each session and is included in the cost of tuition.

Where: Radnor High School (130 King of Prussia Road, Radnor).

Registration: In-person registration will be held in the Radnor High School main office from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. until Fri., June 14. Click here view the application form.

Summer Reading Camp

The RTSD Summer Literacy Camp will feature daily literacy instruction provided by teachers specifically trained for this summer reading intervention. Program features include small needs-based classes, leveled take-home books, access to a PA certified school librarian and elementary media center resources. Students will also have the opportunity to experience a variety of supplemental services including Brain Gym, PAWS Reader Dogs and Super Thursday Special Events.

Who: RTSD students who have completed grades K-3 who meet specific criteria indicating reading performance that is below grade-level expectations. Families will be notified at spring conferences if their child(ren) are invited to the camp.

When: July 15-August 8; Monday-Thursday; 8:30 a.m.-12 noon

Where: Wayne Elementary School (651 W. Wayne Ave., Wayne)

Registration: Families will be formally notified at spring conferences if their child(ren) qualify for the camp. There is no charge to attend the summer program but families are required to commit to full attendance, commit to arriving on time each day, and complete nightly reinforcement activities.

Summer Literacy Program for English Learners

The Summer Literacy Program for English Learners will focus on extending students’ English language proficiency skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening the English language skills that are necessary to succeed on the state mandated ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 test which is administered each year to all English learners in Pennsylvania. The program is staffed by certified teachers who have experience with English language learners.

Who: Open to all RTSD students who are identified as English learners. Students entering kindergarten and students new to the district are welcome to enroll if they have completed the RTSD registration process.

When: July 15-Aug. 8; Monday-Thursday; 8:30 a.m.-12 noon

Extended School Year (ESY)

Radnor Township School District’s Extended School Year (ESY) program provides a powerful adjunct to the traditional school year by harnessing evidence-based programs and strategies that proved effective during the school year and partnering them with co-curricular experiences that build cherished summer memories. All programming is individually designed to meet each student's needs.

The newly enhanced ESY program is integrated with the district's Summer Reading Camp and Summer Literacy Program for English Learners. 

Who: Open to qualifying RTSD students in grades K-12. Extended School Year services are discussed at Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings held in the spring semester.

When: July 8-August 8; Monday-Thursday; 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Registration: ESY participation is by invitation only.
