The Pennsylvania Department of Education defines an instructional coach as someone whose chief professional responsibility is working with teachers and other school leaders.
Instructional Coaches use evidence-based literacy and instructional strategies through the coaching process with the goals of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and building teacher capacity in schools.
Each Radnor Township School District elementary building has a designated Instructional Coach, who is a certified reading specialist. The primary responsibilities of the literacy coaches are the effective implementation of the literacy program and its related assessments and the professional development of the building staff. Coaches work closely with classroom teachers to monitor students' progress in the area of literacy, administer and interpret individual reading tests, and lead curriculum development initiatives.
