Radnor High School Summer School

The Radnor High School Summer School program provides students the opportunity to enrich and accelerate their learning, as well as give students a chance to recover credits in courses they failed during the regular school year.

Program Dates: June 18 through August 2, 2024 (excluding June 19, July 4, and July 5)

Program Times: Classes will meet daily from 7:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Tutoring is available 11:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. and is included in the price of tuition.

Location: Radnor High School (130 King of Prussia Road, Radnor)

Eligibility: RHS Summer School classes are open to rising 9th-12th grade students. Radnor residents who do not attend Radnor Township School District public schools must show proof of residency when registering to be eligible for resident tuition. Summer school is not open to students who have graduated.

Program Model: Summer School will be offered in a hybrid model. Students can enroll for in-person OR remote instruction but must commit to one placement at the beginning of the course. The midterm and final exam must be taken in-person regardless of placement.

Please note: Space in the RHS Summer School program is limited. Courses will have a maximum capacity of eighteen (18) students. Once the maximum number of students are enrolled in a course, additional registrants will be added to a waitlist. If a student chooses to unenroll from the program, waitlist students will be notified in the order that applications were received.

Advanced Algebra I (05040414)

1.0 Credit; Unweighted

The goal of this course is to develop algebraic skills and concepts and to enhance problem solving ability. Topics include polynomial expressions and equations, quadratic functions, irrational numbers, coordinate graphing, graphing linear and quadratic functions, basic statistics, determining and analyzing the slope of lines, and factoring polynomial expressions. Advanced Geometry (05040424)

1.0 Credit; Unweighted

This class is a concept-based approach to traditional Geometry designed to reinforce and extend previous algebra skills while integrating new geometric concepts. Students in Geometry derive and use formulas for perimeter, circumference, area, surface area, and volume of many types of figures, use the Pythagorean Theorem, use congruence and similarity in describing relationships between figures, and analyze geometric figures. Some computer lab work may be performed during the year. Throughout the course, algebra skills will be reviewed and reinforced through the application of geometry concepts.

Honors Geometry (05040422)

1.0 Credit; Weighted

This course uses a disciplined approach to traditional Geometry, integrating the concepts and skills previously developed in Algebra 1. Students in Geometry H apply geometric concepts to solve problems, use two-column proofs to establish relationships among triangles and parts of triangles, apply similarity theorems to geometric figures, relate knowledge of parallel and perpendicular lines to solve practical problems, combine algebraic and geometric skills to solve perimeter, area and volume problems, and apply skills involving trigonometry and transformational geometry. Interactive computer software may be integrated throughout the curriculum.

Registration

In-person registration will be held in the Main Office of Radnor High School from February 26 through June 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No registration will be allowed after 3 p.m. on June 14.

Payment and Fees

The tuition cost for a 1.0 credit course:

Radnor Residents: $850 per class plus $50 Registration Fee.
Non Residents: $1,275 per class plus $50 Registration Fee.
Free and reduced lunch: Residents of the Radnor Township School District who are eligible for free and reduced lunch will pay the $50 registration fee only. Students must have applied and been accepted to the Free and Reduced Lunch Program prior to May 1, 2024 to be considered eligible.

All payment is due in full at the time of registration. Payment is by personal check, cashier’s check or money order made payable to “RTSD” with the student’s first and last name in the memo.

Note: If your check is returned for insufficient funds, you will be liable for a processing fee in the amount of $30.

Refunds

Course tuition and registration fees will be refunded only if a course is cancelled. Course tuition will be refunded if a course runs and a refund is requested prior to June 14 at 3 p.m. No refunds will be given after 3 p.m. on June 14. Please note: it may take up to 4-6 weeks to process refund checks.

Additional Information

Acceleration/Remediation

Summer school courses can be taken for remedial or original credit. Radnor students who enroll in summer courses for acceleration or remediation purposes will keep their course requests for the fall semester. During the first week of the 2023-2024 school year, school counselors will meet with students who successfully completed summer school courses to adjust their schedules accordingly.

Attendance/Lateness

Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes and arrive on time. Students who miss a session for any reason are considered absent. No credit will be given for a course if a student is absent for more than two days. Students who are late to school will have their lateness count towards days absent. If a student exceeds the absence limit, they will be withdrawn and a WD will be placed on their transcript. No refunds will be given to students who are withdrawn due to attendance issues.

Grades

Each summer school course has a final exam which counts for 20% of the final grade. The other 80% of the grade is based on total points earned from homework, quizzes, tests and other projects. Since each day of summer school accounts for more than a week of instruction during the regular school year, it is imperative that students spend time studying after they leave each day. Teachers are available each day after class to assist students who may need extra help.

Student Conduct

Students are expected to adhere to the rules and guidelines outlined in the Radnor High School Student Handbook. A Level 1 infraction that otherwise would have resulted in a detention will result in a warning. A second, and all subsequent Level 1 infractions will be considered an unmodified Level 1 behavior and will be treated as a Level 2 infraction. Provided they are not suspendable offenses, a total of three (3) Level 2 or higher infractions will result in the student being withdrawn from the course.

Any infraction that would result in an Out-of-School Suspension will result in the student being withdrawn from the course. Any student who is withdrawn after June 26 will have a "WD" placed on their transcript. No refunds will be given for students who are withdrawn for disciplinary issues.

Any Level 3 or 4 infractions that would result in a multiple day Out-of-School Suspension may extend into the regular school year and involve police contact.

Transcripts

An official transcript will be mailed after the last day of summer school to the home address listed on the student’s registration form. Only one copy of the transcript will be mailed per student.

Summer school courses taken by students who attend Radnor High School will be added to the student’s transcript. Students may repeat a course they failed during the regular school year. If they do, both courses will appear on the student’s transcript.

Transportation/Parking

Busing is not available for summer school. Students and parents must provide their own transportation. Students may park in any of the numbered spots on campus. Students should not park in the “visitor” or “transportation” spots. There will be no fee and no hangtag for student summer school parking.

2024 Approved Summer School Classes (Non-RTSD) for RHS Students

Original Credit, Remedial Credit or Acceleration

There are currently no approved summer school courses outside of what is offered at Radnor High School. Students interested in signing up to attend any summer programs for the purpose of credit recovery should meet with their counselor to have the program approved prior to registering.

If your student is applying for acceleration, please note that these are available in Math or Science only. The completed RHS Application for Math or Science Acceleration Form must be submitted for approval (see below). Once the application is received, notification and confirmation will follow within 8 to 10 days. Deadline for these applications is June 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

Once a summer course for acceleration or credit recovery is complete the student must have their transcript emailed or mailed to the Radnor High School Counseling Secretary.

Summer courses are counted toward graduation requirements but do not appear on the RHS transcript. In addition, the grade will not be counted toward the students' GPA. The summer school transcript will be attached to the student's final transcript and sent to Colleges for documentation.
