Welcome to the WES Library!
All Wayne Elementary students receive 50 minutes of library instruction each six-day cycle. Children receive instruction in library information skills, make a book selection, and have time for reading during each library class.
The library curriculum is aligned with the Pennsylvania Core State Standards and follows the RTSD Board-approved Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Model Curriculum. Our three main units of study are Library Citizenship (including Reading), Digital Citizenship, and Research. The RTSD libraries utilize the Common Sense Education curriculum for instruction in Digital Citizenship.
Kindergarten and first grade books are checked out for a loan period of one week. The loan period for second through fifth graders is two weeks with renewal available, if needed. Children may check the due dates of their materials by logging into the library circulation system (Destiny).

Summer Book Stack
Keep your student reading throughout the summer with a Summer Book Stack. Books are introduced during library class. Students may order from any list. Books will be delivered to your student's classroom before the end of the school year with a portion of all sales going to the library. Book orders are due no later than May 19.
Reading Olympics
Reading Olympics is a 5th-grade club that promotes the love of reading. Participating students agree to read a minimum of 5 books from the annual Reading Olympics Books list. In the spring the teams compete against other Delaware County schools. Space is limited. Contact Mrs. Dahlstrom or stop in the library for a Reading Olympics application.
WES Celebration Book Club
For a suggested donation of $20.00 (the average price of a new book), parents/guardians can celebrate their child’s most recent achievement with a Celebration Book preselected by our librarian. A commemorative bookplate will be placed in the book and it will become a permanent part of the WES library collection. Use the link below to learn more.

Digital Citizenship
As a part of the Radnor Township School District's Library Curriculum, your child will receive instruction in Digital Citizenship. Our Learning Targets for this unit come directly from our state standards:
15.3.2.E: With prompting and support, use digital tools for guided research projects.
15.3.2.T: With prompting and support, answer questions related to digital citizenship
15.4.2.B: Demonstrate responsible use of technology and equipment.
15.4.2.L: With help and support, use web browser to locate content-specific websites.

The RTSD Library Curriculum utilizes research-based lessons adapted from the Common Sense Media curriculum.
