Social Work

School Social Workers believe that student success and well-being are achieved when the important adults involved in the lives of youth work collaboratively to support their needs as individuals. Positive home, school, and community communication are critical to improving student outcomes and modeling collaborative problem solving. School Social Workers perform a multitude of functions that can address barriers to an individual’s ability to reach his/her fullest and healthiest potential.

  • Provide resource coordination and assist with identification of community resources to address a variety of needs
  • Conduct home visits and serve as liaison between home, school, & community
  • Identify barriers to parent and student engagement and promote solutions to such barriers
  • Conduct risk assessments as part of the risk assessment team
  • Participate in student centered team meetings and IEP meetings
  • Conduct psychoeducational groups to promote healthy social emotional development
  • Develop programs with various stakeholders to service students and families in need
  • Ensure communication among various child serving systems and facilitate interagency collaboration
  • Support the implementation of McKinney Vento services across the district
  • Implement attendance improvement interventions to promote school engagement
  • Provide supportive casework to students and their families to include parent education and self-advocacy.

If you are an RTSD student/family in need of assistance, please contact your child's school counselor, social worker or school administrator.
