MLK Jr. Day of Service
MLK JR. DAY OF SERVICE
Thank you to our entire community for coming together to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Volunteers collected and sorted donations contributed by families across the district. Families participated in a number of hands-on activities including writing and decorating letters of encouragement and support to refugees and immigrants. They also enjoyed a yoga class, sponsored by REF, and a Read Aloud led by WES librarian Mrs. Dahlstrom.
In the week leading up to MLK Jr. Day, RMS students first watched a video showing the impact of war on families and a second video documenting a family's journey to the U.S. After watching the videos, students wrote letters and messages of support which will be included in welcome packages for newly arrived refugees coming from Ukraine, the Congo, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Syria.
Special thanks to Laurie Miltenberger, District Wide PTO Chair of MLK Day, and her team: Michele Leonard (RHS), Shu-wen Wang (RMS), Diana Perez & Brooke McDermott (IES), Steph Baroni (RES) and Mirna Zaragoza (WES)! More.
