The Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) is an agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that administers the pension plan for Pennsylvania public school employees. Under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code, the PSERS pension plan is classified as a 401(a), governmental defined benefit plan. A defined benefit plan means that your retirement benefit is determined by a formula which includes a retirement factor, years of credited service, and the final average salary.      

New members of PSERS receive information from us explaining that an account was established for you and will list and ask you to verify your personal information, contact information, and employer information. You may also download a PSERS Active Member Handbook and information about combining PSERS and State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) employment. A Nomination of Beneficiaries form is also included for you to complete and return to us.  

As a PSERS member, you’ll join with over a half million fellow public school employees who are also members of PSERS. You’ll contribute to your own personal PSERS retirement account and profit from having a safe, secure, and guaranteed benefit payment(s) from one of the largest public pension plans in the nation.

Radnor Township School District offers our eligible employees the opportunity to save for retirement by participating in a 403(b) Tax- Sheltered Account (TSA) Plan. All employees, except for private contractors, appointed/elected trustees and/or school board members and student workers, are eligible to participate in the 403(b) Plan immediately upon employment. You can participate in this plan by making pre-tax contributions. The 403(b) TSA Plan is a valuable retirement savings option.

Background Information

As an employee of a school district, you have a unique opportunity to set aside additional money for retirement in a tax-sheltered account. This retirement account, which is funded through payroll deduction is called a 403(b) tax-sheltered account or TSA. A 403(b) plan allows you to save pre-tax earnings for your retirement, which lowers your current income tax burden. The money you save in a TSA is in addition to your PSERS retirement benefit and Social Security benefits. Social Security credits are not affected by your TSA contribution.

The annual contribution limit for 2024 is $23,000 if you are under the age of 50. If you are over the age of 50 you may contribute an additional $7,500 annually. For more information click here.

RTSD 403(b) Program

The Radnor Township School District 403(b) program is administered by TSA Consulting Group, Inc. If you wish to participate in a 403(b) Tax Sheltered Annuity program, you will need to select a vendor from RTSD's list of approved vendors. You should contact the vendor of your choice and complete any paperwork required by the vendor to establish an account. Once this is complete, you will need to return the Salary Reduction Agreement form to the district Benefits Office for processing.

At no cost to you, district employees can earn guaranteed scholarships - up to one full year's tuition - at more than 290 participating private colleges and universities through the SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards® Program. By saving or investing with their financial partners, you will earn annual Tuition Rewards based on the value of your eligible investments that can be used to help pay for college. Each Tuition Reward point is equal to a $1.00 guaranteed minimum scholarship at any of their member schools. The maximum scholarship varies by college. Employees can enroll their family members - children, grandchildren, stepchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. - from birth until August 31 of the year they start 11th grade.

What are Tuition Rewards? Think of Tuition Reward Points as similar to "frequent flyer miles" that can be used for discounts on college undergraduate tuition, starting with the freshman year, at a couple hundred participating private colleges & universities.

• SAGE is for private, not-for-profit, colleges and universities only. State and other publicly controlled schools are not eligible for the Tuition Rewards program.
• SAGE is for four year, degree granting institutions only. Two year schools, trade schools and other non-degree granting schools are not eligible to join.

If you suffer a work-related injury, your health and well-being are our first concern.

If the injury is of a serious nature and requires emergency care, please report to the nearest emergency room or call 911 right away. If the injury is of a less serious nature, please immediately report the injury to your supervisor or the nurse in your building, then seek treatment from an Occupational Medicine provider on our list of designated providers listed in the Claims Packet. The Occupational Medicine provider will determine whether treatment by a specialist is appropriate. If you do not feel that medical treatment is immediately required, you are nevertheless strongly encouraged to complete the claim process. This will ensure that your injury has been recorded and you can seek treatment for your injury should it become more serious than you initially thought.

In order to ensure your claim is processed with Eastern Alliance, you are required to utilize one of the approved providers for the first 90 days. Please refer to the approved panel included with the Claims Packet. Please complete the employee accident report, release, and acknowledgement and forward them to the attention of Jessica King c/o Administration Building. Be sure to retain all other documents contained in the packet.

The Unemployment Compensation (UC) program provides temporary income support if you lose your job through no fault of your own or if you are working less than your full-time hours. If you qualify, you will receive money for a limited time to help you meet expenses while you seek new employment.
