Our Core Beliefs about Artificial Intelligence

We are committed to embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) thoughtfully, incorporating it into our educational practices, and empowering our students to use Human Intelligence (HI) to become responsible AI users and lifelong learners.

As AI evolves, we must engage in self-reflective practices to best understand how to use AI responsibly and ethically.

It is incumbent upon us to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to effectively and appropriately use AI, enabling them to develop their minds, achieve great academic accomplishments, and gain meaningful educational benefit  while building academic stamina.

As AI is ever-evolving, we believe that policies should be adapted, as needed, through the lens of AI rather than policies be developed specifically for AI.

The Impact on Teaching and Learning

Critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to aggregate and synthesize what we learn are the hallmarks of education in the 21^st century. We must consider the extent to which AI will hinder or enhance these skills.

Lifelong learners must be able to thoughtfully use AI and critique its results. Students need to consider when and how to leverage AI, and teachers need to coach students how to leverage it.

AI strengthens our ability to provide opportunities for personalized learning through customization of content. RTSD encourages teachers to explore AI's potential and incorporate it as a supplemental aid in instructional design and assessment development.

The Ethics of AI in Education

Privacy and data protection are vital considerations when using, engaging, and sharing data with AI. The Radnor High School (RHS) Academic Honor Code (Radnor, 2007) and school handbooks serve as the foundation to gauge or regulate the appropriate use of AI.

It is important to develop the skills needed to wrestle with the quandaries that AI presents. Students must be able to determine if the use of AI conflicts with directions from the teacher, Honor Code, or the values of honesty, integrity, respect, and responsibility.

In a culture of belonging, we believe that the results of AI must be analyzed to determine if it represents diverse thinking and ideas. AI may have an element of bias based on the language models on which it was trained. As a result, it may skew toward certain cultures or ideologies. Educators and students should develop the skills to interpret the results of AI to guard against bias and validate accuracy.

At Radnor Township School District, in support of our mission and vision, we believe in harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence alongside Human Intelligence to prepare our students for an evolving and unpredictable future.

We use different kinds of technology to help us learn. This includes Artificial Intelligence (AI). When our teacher says it’s okay, we can use AI to explore new ideas, solve problems, and create. We must respect others and be honest in our work by doing our own work and giving credit when we use ideas or creations from others or from AI.

In our commitment to responsible learning, we employ a variety of technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI). Our teachers may select AI tools to enhance our curriculum, and when they do, we are obliged to use these tools ethically, reflecting our commitment to academic honesty and integrity. AI is used to enrich our understanding of the curriculum and augment our learning experiences. When we incorporate ideas, suggestions, or creations from AI, we ensure to give appropriate credit. This is in line with our practice of acknowledging all sources that contribute to our learning.

The guidelines around AI use allow teachers to determine how and when students can use AI for coursework. However, you are responsible for working with your teachers to understand their guidelines and clarify questions before using AI for coursework.
