Children Must Be Five by Sept. 1 to Attend Kindergarten Beginning 2020-21

January 29, 2020

Township Children Must Be At Least 5-Years-Old by September 1 of Kindergarten Year for Admission to RTSD Kindergarten Program Beginning in 2020-21

In line with kindergarten program guidelines at the majority of area school districts and to ensure class cohorts of more proximate ages, Radnor Township School District has modified its policy regarding admission to kindergarten.

Beginning the 2020-21 school year, township children must be at least 5-years-old by September 1 of their kindergarten year to enter kindergarten in the district. Prior to this change in policy, approved by the School Board at its Jan. 28 meeting, township children could enter kindergarten if they were at least 5-years-old by September 30 of their kindergarten year.

The policy modification also included a change to the admission guidelines for first-graders in the district. Township children must be at least 6-years-old by September 15 of their first grade year to enter first grade. Previously, township children could enter first grade if they were at least 6-years-old by September 30 of their first grade year.

Parents/guardians of prospective kindergarteners and first-graders who may be affected by this change are welcome to contact Dr. Shawn Dutkiewicz, RTSD Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, at shawn.dutkiewicz@rtsd.org for more information.
