Radnor Township School District Students Celebrate Culture & Tradition During Annual International Week
Students from all five Radnor Township School District schools had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities dedicated to the celebration of culture and tradition during each school's annual "International Week," Monday, Jan. 27 to Friday, Jan. 31.
Each school's Multicultural Committee of its parent-teacher organization sponsored and organized the activities, which exposed students to unique lifestyles and built cultural awareness.
Ithan Elementary School
Ithan Elementary School students were introduced to the unique culture and history of Greece during the school's 16th annual International Week.
Following a presentation by IES parents Jennifer and Dimitri Lambris, students in all grades participated in four hands-on activities in the IES lodge. This year's activities included: a "trip" to Olympus where they competed in the long jump and earned medals at the Olympic Games; making Komboloi, worry beads, at the Taverna; learning about the geographical features of Greece and trying on traditionl clothing; and coloring Greek Gods and writing Greek letters.
The week concluded with an International Night and Potluck Dinner on Friday in the IES Cafetorium.
Radnor Elementary School
Radnor Elementary School celebrated South Korea during this year's International Week. The week began on Monday with an introductory presentation by RES parent Ronia Eun and students posing for a photo dressed in the colors of the Korean flag.
Throughout the week, students received a "passport" that was stamped when they finished activities during regularly scheduled Specials classes. The children played soccer in Gym, learned to write their names in Korean in Art, learned a traditional fan dance during Music, practiced Taekwondo in Wellness and read stories from and about Korean culture and completed a craft in Library.
The celebration concluded with an International Potluck Dinner on Friday in the RES Little Theatre/Cafeteria.
Wayne Elementary School
Wayne Elementary School students proudly celebrated the school's 13th annual International Week with a "trip" to India. With his or her teacher's guidance, each student made a postcard about their experience.
This year's schedule of events included: an Indian food tasting; a Bhangra music and dance assembly; a presentation on India's people, cities and food by IES parents; and student's sharing stories about their experiences in India.
The week concluded with the Multicultural Family Potluck Dinner on Friday in the WES Cafeteria.
Radnor Middle School
Radnor Middle School students enjoyed an international menu throughout the week in the cafeteria and 8th-grade students enjoyed culture presentations on Thursday. Parent volunteers presented to the 8th-grade students during 6th and 7th periods. The countries represented this year included Mexico, England, Korea, Italy, Puerto Rico, China, Germany, India, Brazil, Australia, Spain and Egypt.
Radnor High School
The Radnor High School PTSA kicked off this year's International Week celebration with the 3rd Annual Multicultural Potluck Dinner on Friday, Jan. 24.
