Radnor Middle School Students Compete in 2020 Odyssey of the Mind World Finals
A team of Radnor Middle School students finished 35th overall in the 2020 Odyssey of the Mind World Finals Online. The team - Sebastian Fitzgerald, Erik Mortensen, Arnav Sadashiv, Askshay Sethi, Mason Shieh, Florian Strak and JT Thiara - competed in the Problem I, Division II, "Longshot Solution" competition and was the top ranked team from Pennsylvania in their category.
"Hats off to Radnor Middle School's 2020 Odyssey of the Mind Team for their hard work and dedication," RMS teacher Abby Daniels said. "In their first year as competitors...they went all the way to the World Finals. We can't wait to see what you do next year!"
According to the program's website, "Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment. Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and are able to recognize and explore their true potential. OotM proves that students can have fun while they learn."
The World Finals were originally scheduled to take place at Iowa State University last month. With the cancelation of the in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams competed virtually by sending in a performance video of them solving their respective problem. World Finals culminated with the crowning of the World Champions of Creative Problem Solving during a virtual Awards Ceremony on May 30.
