Phase 1: Full Day In-Person to Begin at Elementary Level with K-2 on Feb. 25

February 11, 2021

Phase 1: Full-Day In-Person Learning at RTSD Elementary Schools Beginning Feb. 25 for K-2, March 1 for 3-5

Dear Radnor Families and Staff,

We are ready to move our elementary program from Phase 2: Hybrid to Phase 1: Full Day In-Person beginning Thursday, February 25 for grades K-2, and Monday, March 1 for grades 3-5.

As we prepare to move to Phase 1 at the elementary level, the week of February 22 will be altered for all our elementary students. Please see the revised schedule at the end of this message.

Based on our consultation with the Chester County Health Department, the CCHD informed us it is preparing additional guidance for all schools which supports physical distancing of less than six feet. Approximately 95% of our families have completed the elementary commitment forms. Based on the current commitments, we have a net gain of 36 elementary students returning to in-person learning from our cyber program. Your principals will share more information once we have all the commitments.

For our secondary families and staff, we continue to review the still-open survey that seeks instructional commitments from our secondary families (fully remote or fully in-person, should the latter option become available) and developing plans to improve our secondary instructional program based on student needs. If you have yet to complete this survey, please do so here. We will provide more information on changes to our secondary program in the coming weeks.

As I shared in a January 28 email, (click here to view), at the January 26 Board meeting, the administration shared detailed plans for moving to Phase 1 at the elementary level. If you haven’t yet had a chance to view the meeting or presentations, we encourage you to do so.

We have continually shared that we need to be ready to move to Phase 3: Fully Virtual at any time and just as ready to move to Phase at any time. As with everything this year, decisions may change at any time based on new information.

As a community, we need to double down on our commitment to reduce the spread of this virus in order to be successful in Phase 1 at the elementary level. We must practice, both inside and outside school, our protocols focused on hygiene, masking, screening and distancing. Our collective efforts have brought us this far, and I am confident in our community. Our kids need us to come together.

Sincerely,

Ken
