PDE Launches New Measurement System for Schools and Students
The Future Ready PA Index is Accompanied by a Website Providing Data for All PA Districts
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has introduced a new way to measure college and career readiness called "The Future Ready PA Index." The new measurement system is accompanied by an online dashboard PDE is calling a "one-stop shop for comprehensive information on student and school success."
The Future Ready PA Index measures college and career readiness by examining industry-based learning and access to rigorous courses of study, student academic improvement, and growth on a variety of indicators. According to PDE, the aim of the index is to "recognize that students, and the schools that serve them, are more than just test scores."
Data measured by the Future Ready PA Index for each Pennsylvania school and district will be available on the new dashboard. The dashboard will be searchable by district, school, career and technical center, or location and will include basic informaton and demographic data for each school.
As the tool was being developed, educators, parents, and community members from across the state provided input to PDE on the measurements and evaluation indicators that should be considered for the Future Ready PA Index. Over three years, PDE leaders met with thousands of stakeholders in communities across the state, including educators, parents, advocates, policymakers, and business leaders, to determine what a new school measurement tool should look like.
According to PDE, the dashboard approach heightens transparency around school and student performance by including data on achievement and growth by student group, including economically disadvantaged students, English Learners, students receiving special education services, and racial and ethnic groups.
RTSD has been preparing to receive the new information in the new format and is working on ways to help Radnor parents and community members understand the data.
