Ithan Elementary School Teacher Melissa Krissinger Receives Delaware County Excellence in Teaching Award
Ithan Elementary School 1st-grade teacher Melissa Krissinger was recently named a recipient of the Delaware County Excellence in Teaching Award, sponsored by the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union and the Delaware County Intermediate Unit.
The award was given to 18 teachers in various school districts and private schools who demonstrate dedication, innovation and motivation in the classroom. Krissinger received a commemorative plaque, a $500 cash grant and $1000 to benefit IES at the annual Partners in Education celebration at the Drexelbrook Corporate Events Center (4700 Drexelbrook Drive, Drexel Hill) on May 2. She was also featured with the other Excellence in Teaching Award recipients in the Delaware County Daily Times.
"I am honored to be selected for this award," Melissa said. "I love teaching our young learners here in Radnor and am very appreciative of this recognition."
Melissa was nominated by family friend Rita McHugh.
"I've known Melissa since she was born," Rita said. "She comes from a line of educators and is such a positive and upbeat person. First-grade is perfect for her and her students are so lucky to have the experience of having her as their teacher."
Melissa joined Ithan Elementary School as a 1st-grade teacher in 2001. She is the 1st-grade team leader and serves on the Ithan CARES committee, which works to build community through its core values of Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy and Self-Control. She has a passion for teaching reading and has served on the district's math curriculum committee. She previously participated in the ACTS grant program which focused on using innovative technology in the classroom.
