Following Revised CCHD Guidance, Masks No Longer Required Outdoors During High Exertion Activities

At a Special Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 11, the RTSD School Board approved an adjustment to the district's Health and Safety Plan (click here for a redlined version that indicates most recent updates) based on revised guidance from the Chester County Health Department regarding mask-wearing. The new CCHD guidance states: "Any staff or student engaging in high exertion OUTDOOR activities, including but not limited to, athletics, exercise or play activities, is NOT required to wear masks when actively engaged in those activities."

The impact of this new guidance applies to the following activities taking place at our schools and goes into effect immediately:

  • outdoor recess
  • outdoor physical education classes
  • outdoor sports, and any other outdoor activities that fit the criteria of CCHD

Please remember, this change is optional and staff and students are welcome to continue to wear a mask during the above activities if they so choose. All other mitigation strategies including mask-wearing indoors and on buses, as well as social distancing, will remain in effect.

Thank you for your continued support.
