The Adolescent Sleep/School Start Time Committee met on November 29. The committee members introduced themselves to the group; participated in a brief survey to help identify the characteristics of sleep deprivation; reviewed the district’s mission statement and its importance as the study is conducted; discussed qualities of an effective committee process; came to an understanding for the study and its intentions as a recommendation to administration is developed; and worked to establish topics and begin the process of developing sub-committees to explore each of these areas.

The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for December 14 and will include a brief presentation from committee and community member Dr. Roberta Winters regarding adolescent sleep, which will help further educate the committee. The group will also begin working within its sub-committees to research their identified topic area.
