School Board Approves Change to School Schedules Beginning the 2019-20 School Year; RHS Will Begin 55 Minutes Later at 8:30 a.m.; Schedules at Radnor Middle School and Ithan, Radnor and Wayne Elementary Schools Will Also Change
In line with the recommendations of major medical organizations and following the results of a comprehensive multi-year study of student sleep and school start time in Radnor Township School District, the RTSD School Board voted April 23 to approve a change to the schedules at all five RTSD schools, establishing a new 8:30 a.m. start time at Radnor High School and ensuring the greatest number of Radnor students benefit from the health advantages of increased sleep.
By pushing the Radnor High School start time back 55 minutes from 7:35 a.m., Radnor becomes the only school district in Southeastern Pennsylvania to successfully adjust its high school start time to align with the 8:30 a.m. start time recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Medical Association.
As approved by the Board, the new schedule for RTSD schools beginning the 2019-20 school year is:
· Radnor High School: 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. (now: 7:35 a.m.-2:27 p.m.)
· Radnor Middle School: 7:50 a.m.-2:40 p.m. (now: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.)
· Ithan, Radnor, Wayne Elementary schools: 9:07 a.m.-3:40 p.m. (now: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
